Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori was in action for Orlando Pirates as they lost 4-3 to Kaizer Chiefs on penalties in the 2021 Carling Black Label Cup at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday.

The 27-year-old, who made a return to the team after over three months out with injury put up an incredible display but it was enough as his side lost.

The game ended goalless after 90 minutes, even though Daniel Cardoso had a second-half penalty saved by Pirates keeper Ofori.

In the shootout, Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Wayde Jooste had their penalties saved by Brandon Petersen while Sabelo Radebe was the only Chiefs player to miss a spot-kick.

In what was a proper pre-season game where combinations didn’t quite come together for both teams, and it wasn’t surprising that the game went to penalties.

While there were chances that kept the goalkeepers Richard Ofori for Orlando Pirates and Itumeleng Khune for Kaizer Chiefs busy, Chiefs should have taken the lead in the 75th minute.

They were awarded a penalty after Radebe’s shot connected with Nyauza’s hand, and referee Thando Ndzandzeka had no option but to award the spot-kick.

The normally efficient Cardoso somehow fluffed his lines and his penalty was saved by the returning Ofori.
