Robbie Savage Warns Manchester United That Liverpool Could 'Open Them Up'

Published on: 04 October 2016

BT Sport Pundit Robbie Savage has warned Jose Mourinho that Liverpool's
attacking threat could expose his Manchester United side when the two teams clashon 17 October.

Despite a £150m outlay in the summer, United have failed to truly gel thus far. Having registered 24 shots on target against bottom side Stoke City on the weekend, they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, with Stoke keeper Lee Grant making impressive saves from the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimović and Jesse Lingard in the first half.

The tactical substitution to bring on Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial in the 67th minute resulted inan exquisite goal from Martial, which would be equalised by Joe Allen nine minutes before full-time,ensuring a draw.

The Reds have had a frustrating start to life under Jose Mourinho, having lost to the likes of Watford and Feyenoord in recent weeks before improved results against Leicester and Zorya in the Europa League.

However, Savage believes there is a risk that United could fail to overcome the relentlesspressing of Klopp's Liverpool.

Speaking to BT Sport, Savage said: "They've got Liverpool away in the next fixture and they [Liverpool] will probably have more possession.

It's quite a statement.

They could get opened up by Liverpool in the next game. Although they should have won this game today, they were the better team.

The Merseysiders have already earned victories against other big teams this season, defeating bothChelsea and Arsenal. The clash against Manchester United - which is after the international break - will give a strong indication of both sides' title credentials.
