Roberto Firmino's Massive Release Fee Revealed - With Surprising Arsenal Clause Included

Published on: 05 December 2016

A number of national newspapers across Europe have continued to release information from an enormous data dump from the 'Football Leaks' website, with the contents ofRoberto Firmino's massive release clause revealed byBelgian newspaper Le Soiron Monday night.

The Brazilian star had a €98m (around £82.6m) release fee inserted into his Liverpool deal when he signed from Hoffenheim in 2015 - but the clause specifies that it does not apply to any bid from Arsenal - and Arsenal alone.

The report from the Belgian paper claims that the deal means that the Gunners - perhaps in reaction to the infamous '£40,000,001' bid for Luis Suarez - cannot force Liverpool to sell the forward for €98m 'or for any greater amount'.

12 newspapers, including the Sunday Times, have worked for seven months to comb through 1.9TB of information handed to German paper Der Spiegel earlier in the year. Last Friday saw the initial reporting of the information obtained, with tax scandals galore, and more revelations are expected over the coming days and weeks.

Le Soir specifically state: "Arsenal cannot buy Roberto Firmino for €98m nor for any other higher amount."

Firmino has had a strong start to the season in a frighteningly effective Liverpool forward line so far this season, notching five goals and three assists in the Premier League alone since the start of the campaign.

With the recent injury to Philippe Coutinho, Firmino is likely to have more pressure placed on him over the Premier League's busy festive period - and could see teams sniffing around even his massive release clause if he continues to deliver for Jurgen Klopp and his teammates.
