Hospitals and medical centres around Rome today received vital medical supplies, as the club continues to offer support in the battle against the coronavirus outbreak.
With the club’s fundraising push recently passing the halfway mark on the road to its target of €500,000, staff have already begun the process of purchasing and distributing much-needed equipment and supplies to Lazzaro Spallanzani hospital and other centres on the frontline in the battle against Covid-19.
On Tuesday the club delivered a total of 13,000 FFP2 masks to hospitals in the city, along with 120 500ml bottles of hand sanitizer. A further 12,000 masks will be delivered on Monday, while 1,500 FFP3 masks will also be supplied to hospitals on Friday. The first batch of FFP2 masks have been distributed between six hospitals in the city, ensuring staff and applicable patients are kept safe as they work on cases.
That includes Spallanzani: the city’s centre for infectious diseases, and one of the epicentres of the national effort to fight the current outbreak. Five other medical institutions have also received masks – the Ares 118 Emergency Centre, the Umberto I Policlinic, and Gemelli Columbus, Tor Vergata and Sant’Andrea hospitals.
Both Sant’Andrea hospital and Tor Vergata have also taken delivery of 60 bottles of hand sanitizer – another important weapon in protecting against the spread of Covid-19. On Sunday, the club also delivered 600 surgeon masks to Sant'Andrea.
Italy remains the worst-affected nation outside of China during the current coronavirus outbreak, with more than 28,000 confirmed cases as of Monday evening. With over 2,800 deaths, over a third of the worldwide victims of the virus so far have come from the country.
As the fundraising total grows, Roma will continue to supply hospitals with much-needed equipment – including more masks, hand sanitisers and respiratory equipment. Officials from the club and its charity arm, Roma Cares, are working directly with medical staff to ensure they are provided with exactly what they need during the current crisis.
