Ronald Koeman Admits That His Side's 2-1 Defeat Away to Burnley Is 'Very Hard to Take'

Everton manager Ronald Koeman cut a frustrated figure in his post-match press conference, saying that his team's 2-1 defeat at Turf Moor 'hurts'.

The Toffees were dominant against Burnley, having the lion's share of possession and even camping in the Burnley half for large spells of the second 45 minutes.

After a goalkeeping error from Martin Stekelenburg gave Burnley the lead, Yannick Bolasie's goal pegged the Clarets back in the second half.

But Sean Dyche's men were able to snatch victory with a late goal completely against the run of play.

Koeman, speaking to theLiverpool Echo, said:"Sometimes football is really unfair. You don't always get what you deserve.

"Of course it is very hard to take.To be going home with no points, it hurts. But OK, that's football."

The Dutchman saw his side control the tempo of the game and have a number of significant moments in and around the Burnley penalty area.

But there wasn't enough quality on the final passagainst an organised defensive unit, and when they did find their way through the finishing was not as clinical as was required.

"I think we started the game well," Koeman added. "(Kevin) Mirallas had two good opportunities in the first 5 or 10 minutes, but after 20-25 minutes, I think we dropped a little bit in intensity.

"And you know, when you face direct play, second balls, it is always difficult.

"We went 1-0 down, but I think the reaction of the players was really good in the second half. We scored a good goal, and then we needed to continue.

"They tried, but then Burnley waited for one moment, and they got that one moment."
