Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday afternoon became just the second player to score in 9 consecutive major tournaments when he bagged a brace for Portugal in the 3-0 win against Hungary.
The Juventus superstar was in action for his national team when they opened their campaign in the 2020 European Championship.
In a game that ended goalless at the end of the first 45 minutes, Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the final minutes to seal a 3-0 win for Portugal.
Having scored in that game, the forward has now found the back of the net in 9 consecutive major tournaments.
Ghana’s all-time leading top scorer Asamoah Gyan has been holding the record as the only player in history to have done so in the last four years.
With Ronaldo achieving the feat, he joins the Black Stars great on that elite list. With Ronaldo still active in the sport, it will be interesting to see if he would go on to set a new record, probably at the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament expected to be staged in Qatar.
Only two players have scored in nine consecutive major international tournaments: World Cup + Euros / Copa América / AFCON.
