Charles Kwablan Akonnor has been linked with a possible move to join Rayon Sports as head coach of the Rwandan club.
Akonnor resigned as manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko after the club told him to take up the technical role of the club for another coach to fill his shoes. The decision did not excite the coach which resulted in his departure after leading the club to their best performance in Africa over a decade.
Akonnor is however expected to arrive in Rwanda on Monday, August 19 to finalize his terms of agreement with Rayon Sports who are participating in the CAF Champions League.
Rayon Sports have not been with a head coach since parting ways with Brazillian coach, Roberto Oliveira Goncalves on mutual consent a few days ago.
Reports in Rwanda indicate that Rayon Sports will announce a new coach to take charge of the team before their CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg game against Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman next Sunday.
They were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Hilal in the first leg in Kigali and need a vital win to ensure their stay in the tournament.
The former Black Stars captain won the GFA Normalisation Committee Special Competition with Kotoko before his departure.
