Players of the Ghana u-23 team, the Black Meteors have bitterly complained over what they described as poor and disgraceful treatment meted out to them prior to the first leg tie of their game against Algeria in the final qualifying round to the u-23 Cup of Nations.

According to some players who opened up in an interview with City FM, they had to return to their hotel after the game in an old Black Stars bus, with officials needing to pick Taxis back to their camping base.

Some other player also bemoaned the poor conditions of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium which hosted the match. He could not understand why authorities did not water the pitch to make it football friendly before kickoff.

“They’re treating the Algerians better than us, as if when we go there these guys will treat us any better,” one of the players said.

Another also wailed, “This is disgraceful, it’s like they don’t care about this game. The pitch wasn’t even watered. Just putting water on the pitch too, they didn’t do it,”.

Following a 1-1 draw against the Young Fennecs at the end of the first leg, the Black Meteors are set to play as a guest to their counterpart on Tuesday, September 10, for the return leg.

The team that emerges as the winner on the day will get the chance to play at the CAF u-23 Cup of Nations which will serve as grounds to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
