Sam Allardyce Set to Abandon Unpopular Roy Hodgson Coaching Techniques During England Tenure

Published on: 27 August 2016

Sam Allardyce is set to lay down the marker on his reign as England manager by abandoning some of the unpopular coaching techniques adopted by his predecessor Roy Hodgson.

Mark Ogden writes inThe Independentthat Allardyce has taken heed of senior player suggestions and is set to end thelengthy tactical meetings that were a major - and immensely unpopularfeature under Hodgson.

According to Ogden, Allardyce is determined to afford greater freedom to his squad and ensure that training and international football becomes less monotonous under his stewardship, as he looks to extinguish the painful memories of Euro 2016.

"From his conversations with players, Allardyce has learned that the squad finds lengthy stints at St George's Park as boring and lacking in stimulation away from the pitch," Ogden wrote.

Allardyce also said Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart will be in his squad, due to be announced on Sunday at 5.30pm, but is not guaranteed a place in the long-term.

"Obviously Joe's not playing, Jack Butland is injured and there's only Fraser (Forster) who's playing at Southampton on a regular basis. That's a bit of a dilemma."

Allardyce also revealed he is not concerned with potentially falling out with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho. Allardyce is set to call-up Luke Shaw after a lengthy injury for the left-back, something Mourinho is certain to take issue with.

"I will speak to Jose," he said in several national newspapers. "We've got on well together, but when you're having a conversation with an international manager, we all know the difficulties of the past.

"So, I'm not saying we won't have a fall-out now and again because we're both passionate about what we do. There may be a time when it gets a bit sticky, when he doesn't agree with me or I don't agree with him. Hopefully that's miles away."
