San Marino Hit Back at Thomas Muller After Germany Star Claims Playing Minnows Is 'Pointless'

Published on: 13 November 2016

San Marino have responded to Thomas Muller after the Germany striker claimed playing the minnows is a pointless exercise.

The World Champions destroyed San Marino 8-0 on Friday night, with Muller having some unsavoury words to say about their opponents following the match.

I don't understand the point of such uneven games like these, even more so because of the crowded fixture list," Muller said.

Thomas Muller's comments may have some merit but were entirely graceless. Great response from San Marino https://t.co/1xnrywXnQP

"I understand that for them it is special to play against the world champions, I understand also that they can only defend with tough tackling.

"For this reason, though, I wonder if these are not games which bring unnecessary risks.

However, although the San Marino team do not have the resources and quality to compete with Germany on the pitch, their director of communications was not prepared to sit idly by and let Muller openly mock them.

Alan Gasperoni issued a ten-point refutation of Muller's comments, lining out eloquently why Germany playing San Marino was not without significance or meaning.

"Dearest Thomas Muller,

You're right. The games like that on a Friday night, they're nothing. To you. On the other hand, dear Thomas, you do not need to come to San Marino for almost nothing in a weekend in which, without the Bundesliga, you could have spent with your wife on the sofa of you luxury villa or, who knows, you could have taken part in some events organised by your sponsors to bank several thousand euros. I believe you, but allow me to give 10 good reasons for which I think the San Marino-Germany match was very useful and if only you could could think about it and let me know what you think:

"With Love, your Alan."

Let's see if Muller has anything in response to Gasperoni's letter.
