Saudi Arabia seal early advantage

Zarqa: Saudi Arabia opened the second round of their 2019 West Asian Football Federation U-15 Boys Championship campaign on a resounding note as they defeated Syria 3-0 on Sunday.

The win places Saudi Arabia in pole position ahead of their clash against hosts Jordan on Wednesday where a win will seal them the title.

Waleed Saber, Saleh Ali and Fawaz Muhanna were the Saudi Arabia goalscorers.


The Championship format sees the three group winners squaring off in a second round robin competition which will decide the champions.

In the round robin competition to decide the fourth to sixth placed teams, Kuwait defeated Lebanon 2-1 with Jarah AlHeleeli (20th, penalty) and Thamer AlSulaili (38th) giving them a comfortable lead. Ahmad AlKandari scored Lebanon's consolation four minutes into second half added time.

Up next for Kuwait are Palestine on Wednesday.

Iraq, meanwhile, scored their first win of the competition with a 3-1 defeat of Bahrain in the seventh to ninth-placed pool with Ali Al Akbar, Abbas Adil and Ahmed Jawad scoring for Iraq. Ali Tarada scored Bahrain's consolation.

Iraq play Oman next on Wednesday.
