Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Sekondi Hasaacas, Paapa Kwesi Esson is in opposition to the decision by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reduce the team’s in the Division One League (DOL) from 48 to 18.

The Ghana FA in a communique published on its official website last week announced that its Executive Council had given the go-ahead for processes to begin to reduce the number of participating clubs for the lower division.

According to the body, the move is in line with Article 81(6) of the GFA Statutes 2019 which states that “The number of delegates representing the Division One League shall be reduced to 18 (down from the current 48) at the latest by the end of the second football season following the adoption of these Statues”.

Speaking to Akoma FM on the matter, Paapa Kwesi Esson has noted that it does not make sense because it will end up affecting the grassroots talents in the country.

“It doesn't make any sense to me to reduce the current 48 Division, One team League, to 18 teams. Reducing the teams will adversely affect grassroots talents in the interior part of our country”, the Hasaacas CEO said.
