Shafiu Mumuni is old and can't play Ashgold - Emmanuel Frimpong

Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold SC, Emmanuel Frimpong has taken a swipe at Shafiu Mumuni saying he is fit enough to play for the club.

The Black Stars ‘B’ skipper’s contract with the Obuasi based club ended in May this year and the player has refused to renew the contract despite a lot of effort from the club.

The player was in Romania earlier this year to have a trial session with CFR Cluj but couldn’t join the club due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

After returning to Ashgold, the striker failed to sign a new deal with the club.

Ahead of the Caf Confederations Cup campaign, Ashgold has released the player.

And according to the CEO of the club, the club are building a team that Shafiu’s presence is not needed.

“Shafiu has gone for trials three times but has failed,” he said.

“We were hoping that he will sign a new deal Ashgold but he publicly declared his interest to play for Kotoko. For me, I see nothing wrong with that but he is not part of our plans.

“He is ageing and we determined to ship out all aged players from the team because we are building a winsome side.

“It is not only Shafiu that we are shipping out but a lot of players will also leave,” he added.
