Ashanti Gold striker, Shafiu Mumuni was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’ in Ghana’s emphatic 3-1 victory against Cote d’Ivoire in the semi-finals of the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations tournament.

The accolade was handed to the captain of the Black Stars B team for his outstanding performance on the day which ended with a hat-trick to his credit as well.

He opened the scoring with a goal in bizarre circumstances when an attempted clearance from an Ivorian defender deflected off his back and into the net to give Ghana the lead.

Shafiu then resumed the second half in lethal fashion and scored two additional goals to add to the woes of his team’s opponent. Two quick headed goals on the 46th and 50th minute respectively helped the Black Stars to cruise to the finals of the ongoing WAFU tournament in Senegal.

He was subsequently named the ‘Man of the Match’ and is well on course to winning the top-scorer award.
