Shafiu Mumuni part ways with Ashanti Gold SC

Ashanti Gold SC striker Shafiu Mumuni has parted ways with the Miners ahead of next season, according to the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Emmanuel Frimpong.

Mumuni was in Romania earlier this year to have a trial session with CFR Cluj ahead of a possible transfer to the side but due to the coronavirus pandemic, he could not finalise a deal.

According to Emmanuel Frimpong, Shafiu Mumuni has had his contract expired and has been given the greenlight to leave the team despite contract renewal talks early on.

Frimpong says Mumuni is leaving the former Ghana Premier League champions because he is no longer in the plans of their head coach Roberto Landi.

"Shafiu [Mumuni] is not in our plans. The head coach claimed Shafiu is not needed in the team [[AshantiGold] because we have signed his replacement. His contract has ended", Frimpong told Fox FM.

According to reports, the Black Stars 'B' attacker has agreed in principle to join Asante Kotoko in the on-going transfer window.

Mumuni was crowned top scorer for the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations after netting four goals after the tournament.

He made history to become the first-ever player to register a hat-trick at the tournament held in Senegal last year.
