As African football continues to strive to better itself on a global front, former Super Eagles international, Ifeanyi Udeze, believes that creating a hall of fame museum would be ideal for remembering Nigeria’s most influential footballers.
Udeze, 40, who played for the likes of AEK Athens, POAK, and West Bromwich Albion, is adamant that young aspiring footballers need a reference point, a symbol of what it took Africa’s most populous nation to become a continental powerhouse and export some of the most exceptional talents in world football.
“Nigerian footballers, dead or living, who sacrificed for the country when they played for the Super Eagles, need to be remembered in a memorable manner,” Udeze told The Guardian, Nigeria.
“Though they are neglected when they retire from football, they can be made proud of their contributions to the country through a hall of fame museum.
“As an ex-footballer, I will be delighted if a hall of fame museum is constructed for people of all generations to see the footballers and their roles in nation-building. It will also motivate present Super Eagles players to give their best in the national team,” he added.
Is this idea worth any merit or is it just an unnecessary distraction amid a period of much-needed progress on the pitch and within administrations?
