Happy homecomings, tournament highlights, match-winning celebrations, a stunning save and a new contract are all included in this week’s selection of the latest happenings both inside and outside of Russia.

Australia

Tim Cahill appeared in his fourth World Cup after coming off the bench in the 2-0 loss to Peru. The Socceroos’ record goalscorer is now back home and enjoying some poolside downtime with family and friends.

Islamic Republic of Iran

The World Cup may have ended in disappointment for Iran but Carlos Queiroz’s side will rightfully be proud of their showing. Captain Masoud Shojaei compiled a clip with the highlights of Team Melli’s time in Russia.

It was the game that shocked the world as the Taeguk Warriors ousted defending champions Germany. No one wanted to miss out on the celebrations, as the injured Koo Ja-cheol proves by limping over to join teammates after Son Heung-min wrapped up the win.

Japan

They may have lost 1-0 to Poland, but Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima pulled off one of the saves of the tournament. As it turned out, a 2-0 defeat would have sent the Samurai Blues packing. The ‘keeper’s post captures the quality of his world-class save.

共に新たな歴史を作りましょう️️ We all make mistakes and have difficult moment. But we are never alone. You gave me the strength to stand up. Saudi Arabia

The Saudis started poorly but ended superbly as their performances in Russia improved game by game. Yasser Al Shahrani’s reward for his displays is a new contract with Al Hilal; here he is celebrating the moment alongside club legend Sami Al Jaber.
