SOUR GRAPES? : Avram Grant says Burkina Faso deserved to be in the final ahead of Egypt

The coach of the Black Stars Avram Grant has lavished praise on Burkina Faso, Ghana's opponents in today's third place AFCON match insisting that they deserved to be in the finals.

Burkina Faso were edged 4-3 on penalties by seven-times champions Egypt in the semi-finals after the game ended 1-1 in normal time.

However, Grant insists they were the better team and should have been in the finals ahead of the Pharaohs.

He told reporters: "They played very well in the semi final and also very well in the prior stages. Of course they wanted to be in the finals.

"The game for third place is between two teams that are not happy but it is better than teams like Algeria, Ivory Coast and Senegal who were considered favourites but failed to make it to this stage.

"It is a game that we need to play, Burkina Faso is a very good team and it is not by co-incidence that they were in the semi-finals".

The black Stars will play Burkina Faso today at the Stade de Port-Gentil, in Port-Gentil - Gabon at 7:00pm.
