Southampton head coach, Reuben Selles, has heaped praise on Ghanaian defender, Mohammed Salisu, for his "exceptional" performances during his time with the club.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Southampton's game against Brentford tonight in the English Premier League, Selles described Salisu as a versatile player who can play in his natural position as a centre-back from the start or as a left-back.

“Sali [Salisu] can play in his natural position as a centre-back from the start or as a left-back. I think Sali has been exceptional in all of our time.

"He obviously has the chance to play tomorrow…he will have his chance to step in from the bench and perform and do as well as he knows how to do,” Selles stated.

Salisu missed three straight games for Southampton due to injury, but has since recovered but has still not been picked for tonight's encounter against The Bees.

Black Stars defender Salisu has had a fine season with Southampton and has reportedly sparked interest from Newcastle United.

Salisu joined Southampton from Real Valladolid in August 2020 for a fee believed to be in the region of £10.9m.
