Speed up Hearts of Oak protest case against Great Olympics - Medeama CEO tells GFA

Published on: 24 June 2021

Mr James Essilfie, the Chief Executive Officer of Medeama Sporting Club, has expressed concern about the delay in adjudicating a protest filed by Hearts of Oak against city rivals, Great Olympics, for using Joshua Kwame Rhule during their local derby at the Accra Sports Stadium on June 6, 2021.

Officials of Hearts of Oak filed a protest to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) alleging that Rhule was unqualified to feature in the local derby, hence Hearts should be declared winners and awarded the maximum points at stake.

However, Great Olympics after the protest was lodged to the FA reacted and said the protest is shallow and does not have enough grounds and evidence.

But commenting on the Hearts protest, Mr Essilfie said it was important for the FA to speed up the adjudication process to allow sanity in the league.

"I will urge the Ghana Football Association to act on the matter as soon as possible," he told Graphic Sports.

"We have just five matches to end the season, and the outcome of that ruling will have consequences on positions on the table.

"We have to avoid needless litigation and so its imperative for the FA to act now.

"It's been an exciting season, and we must do all we can to ensure we end it successfully. The clubs must be clear on the ruling before our next Premier League matches,” he noted

"It's important we safeguard this fantastic season and not allow a potential litigation to mar it," he added.
