Spindel: Flamengo will respect Paqueta agreement with AC Milan

Amid speculation that Real Madrid have attempted to mount a last gasp bid to hijack AC Milan’s deal for Lucas Paqueta, Flamengo general director Bruno Spindel has insisted that the player will move to Italy.

Although the Rossoneri had agreed to a deal for the talented midfielder, there were reports early this week that Los Blancos were interested in continuing their recent spending spree on Brazilian youngsters.

However, Spindel has reassured Milan fans that they need not worry and can look forward to watching the man who has been likened to Diavolo legend Kaka.

“Playing in Europe and playing in the Champions League is a dream for many players. Milan are a great club and we can’t offer the same things to our players,” Spindel stated.

“We can’t help players compete with [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo or Neymar. His desire was to play in Europe and we will let him leave in January.

“We know nothing about the reports from Spain concerning Real Madrid. Flamengo have signed a contract [with Milan] and we will respect that.”

The Flamengo director also revealed that the Rossoneri beat out stiff competition for the player’s signature and he believes that the San Siro will be a perfect fit for Paqueta.

“It isn’t worth naming all of the clubs [who were interested] but at least 10 clubs entered the fray. Not all were of the same level but Milan’s proposal was best for both us and the player,” he added.

“Milan are going through an important moment. Leonardo is there and [Paolo] Maldini is there. They are two men who really know what they are doing. The city has been very welcoming to Brazilians in the past. It will be a good move for him.”
