Veteran Ghanaian trainer JE Sarpong has backed Kamaldeen Sulemana’s move to French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennes, saying the club can help him develop in order to become one of the best players in the world.
The highly rated attacker signed a five-year contract to move from Danish club Nordsjaelland to the French side in a deal worth up to €21 million, reports parimobile.sn
The deal is a straight cash deal that will give Nordsjaelland an immediate amount of €16 million with a further €5 million to be added depending on the appearances the winger-cum-striker makes for the French side.
The 19-year old was a subject of interest for several clubs in Europe including Manchester United, Liverpool Ajax and others but opted to join the French Ligue 1 side.
Speaking to Sylvester Ntim of Bryt FM, the experience coach indicated his move to the club will help his development as a player and has commended him for ignoring the big clubs.
He said, it could have been extremely difficult for former Right to Dream Academy player to develop into a topnotch footballer if he had joined the elite clubs.
“Asamoah Gyan and other Ghanaian players started from there and I believe he is following their footsteps. Ghanaian players normally play for Rennes because they embrace the Ghanaian talent so I think it is good on behalf of the player not to secure a move to a bigger team”
“I believe Rennes will help him a lot and he will be able to learn a lot there going forward. I think it is a good choice for him and the club can help him develop into a world star”
“Kamaldeen is very young, so joining Rennes will help him develop well. If he had join a club like Liverpool, he could have struggled and will be farmed out on loan just like that” he added.
