Stefano Pioli and Inter Must Remain Wary of Enigmatic Cagliari Ahead of Sunday's Clash

Inter must be cautious of Cagliari when the two sides meet on Sunday, according to ESPN writer Edoardo Dalmonte.

Stefano Pioli's side remain in the hunt for a Champions League place, but are currently seven points behind Napoli, who occupy the third qualifying spot. They travel to Cagliari on Sunday, and Dalmonte says the Nerazzurri need to be wary of their opponents.

"Massimo Rastelli has done very well with what is still very much a Serie B team in terms of depth, with the recruitment of plenty of old glories like Bruno Alves and Simone Padoin unable to paper over the side's defensive cracks, not to mention its inconsistency," Dalmonte wrote forESPN.

"Inter's players won't quickly forget losing to the Rossoblu at the San Siro back in October, either, only for the Sardinians to then go winless on the road for four months.

"Things seem to be looking up for Cagliari of late: they broke that away duck (admittedly against Crotone) recently, and welcome Joao Pedro (three Serie A goals) back from suspension and Artur Ionita from a long injury.

"Despite the strong home form, one gets the feeling that Cagliari's luck is about to run out, as the islanders are creating the third-fewest chances at home in Serie A! That kind of luck will eventually run out, especially if former Milanista Davide Di Gennaro doesn't play.

"As important as analyzing Cagliari is, Stefano Pioli's presence should reassure the visitors, and is the main reason why the San Siro club can even countenance playing Champions League football next year."

Inter are currently seventh in Serie A, a place behind rivals Milan who beat Chievo 3-1 on Saturday.
