Former Black Stars captain, Stephen ‘Tornado” Appiah has said that the Black Stars team of 1992 is his greatest national team of all-time. The former captain who lead the national team to Ghana’s first-ever World Cup in Germany in 2006 and captained the team for eight years is of the view that in spite of the history his team made, they are still incomparable to the squad of 1992.

The former Juventus and Fenerbahce player says the 1992 team which had the likes of Tony Yeboah, Abedi Pele, Kwesi Appiah and other top players qualifies to be the greatest team in Ghana’s history due to their flair, skill, and confidence they played with as a team.

During an Instagram chat with Betway Ghana, Stephen Appiah explained that “I didn’t have the chance to watch 1962, or 1982 team but I saw the 1992 team.”

“Edward Ansah was our goalkeeper, Nii Darko Ankrah was number 2, our former coach Akwasi Appiah was number 3, Frimpong Manso and Emmanuel Armah, Tony Baffoe, Prince Polley, Stanley Aborah, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Ali Ibrahim, Tony Yeboah, Abedi Pele,” he narrated.

He, therefore, concluded that “for me when growing up, these were the players that we were watching, these were the players that we wanted to be like and it was amazing watching them in the 1992 African Cup. So for me, it’s the ’92 squad.”
