Steve Cook Twists the Knife After Claiming Bournemouth Targeted Karius as Liverpool's Weakness

Bournemouth hero Steve Cook has toldtalkSPORTthat he and his teammates were told by their manager to deliberately target Loris Karius during their epic 4-3 victory over Liverpool.

The German goalkeeper had a day to forget at Dean Court, after he made one of theseason's worst mistakes so farwhen he dropped Cook's shot into the path of Nathan Ake, who had the easy task of scoring the winner from barely three yards out.

The match has since been dubbed 'IstanBournemouth' and has cast fresh doubts on the Reds's title challenge.Karius' latest blunder has only increased the growing concern over his vulnerability, after many experts had previously warned that the keeper would cost them points.

And as fans and pundits continue to annihilate the Liverpool number one for Sunday's howler, opposition defender Steve Cook - who scored the Cherries' equaliser - has revealed that manager Eddie Howe told his players to put as much pressure on Karius as possible.

When asked if they set out to target the Liverpool keeper, Cook replied:I've got to be honest, we did.

We felt he was under a lot of pressure, obviously playing for Liverpool you've got to be a very strong character.

We did target him, we tried to pressure him and get as many shots at him possible.Obviously we didn't get that many shots off in the game, but we did target him as a weakness in the Liverpool side.

In some ways, it's probably for the best that the Cherries weren't able to have more shots on goal - at least for Liverpool anyway - as Karius' error strewn performance was bad enough as it was.

As the hapless German and his teammates lick their wounds following Sunday's capitulation, Bournemouth's Cook has admitted histeam are revelling in the victory.

When asked whether it was the club's greatest ever win, the defender added: "By a country mile, especially against a side like Liverpool.

"We've never beaten them, never come close to beating them.A side with that much history. It's definitely the best result I've been involved in, in football."
