Stoke boss Hughes: Berahino has made me summer promise...

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says Saido Berahino will be cutting short his summer holidays to work on his fitness.

Hughes revealed Berahino has vowed to carry on working while his team-mates are sunning themselves abroad during the close season.

"Everybody knows the circumstances he had at West Brom," said Hughes, "and he's benefitting from training with a Premier League senior group day in and day out and he's been with us since January.

"So he's in a better place physically. Mentally, he's clearly in a much better place because he's playing games. There's more to come from him, we know that, but he's looking forward to next year.

"He's telling me – and I'll have to keep him to it – that he's going to have a week off and work all through the summer.

"That shows the attitude with what he wants to do with his career and we are really pleased with his focus in trying to get his career back on track.

"It doesn't surprise me because we've been really pleased with how he's trying to get back to the levels we know he's capable of."
