Stoke City fullback Erik Pieters has admitted that he is open to making a move to China.

China has been able to attract a host of top class players with the lure of ridiculously extravagant wage packages and Pieters has gone on to reveal that he is tempted to make a move to the Far East because of the huge financial possibilities.

Pieters told Dutch magazine Voetbal International: "There are extreme amounts involved in football. Compared to other professions it does not make any sense. It is only a matter of time before a player is sold for a billion pounds, I am convinced.

"But you cannot expect players to revolt. If you are offered a 10-fold increase in your contract you do not say, 'Just do half.' I am surprised but I am also grateful. Money ultimately makes you happy. It makes your life easier, you have fewer worries.

"It is not my motivation but I do not act hypocritically. Financial independence is a beautiful goal. For that reason, in a few years, I would like to play football in China for a while."
