Sulley Muntari to Orlando Pirates report dismissed

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan player has been linked with a move to the Buccaneers recently in the local media.

However, a local football agent in South Africa has dismissed reports linking the Ghanaian international midfielder Sulley Muntari with a move to Orlando Pirates.

The football agent said the move will not happen due to his age. The former Black Stars midfielder will turn 38 in August.

“Look, there have been several reports from Ghana about the supposed potential signing of Sulley Muntari with Pirates but as someone who is based here in South Africa and close to Pirates and familiar with how the club operates, I doubt if there is any truth to those reports. The Pirates I know wouldn’t sign a 37-year-old because as far as I know the club is building for the future and therefore is targeting players who are much younger than that,” according to a source who spoke with soccerladuma.

Sipho Shaven, a local football agent who was charged with finding prospects for the veteran player in South Africa when he returned from Europe three years ago, has distanced himself from the Pirates link.

“That is news to me, and I haven’t had any discussions with Pirates about that and therefore I would like to distance myself from those reports,” he said.

Muntari moved to the Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League after training with the club for months. He signed a six-month deal with the Phobians in February, 2022.
