Sunderland may have picked up their first win of the Premier League season away to Bournemouth on Saturday, but manager David Moyes is still in the market for defensive reinforcements in orderto tighten a backline that has been leaky for many seasons now.

The former Everton and Manchester United boss, according to theMirror, has his sights set on a £6m move for Croatian international centre-half Domagoj Vida, who plays for Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev.

The report suggests that the Black Cats were sniffing around the 27-year-old defender in the summer, but were put off by the Ukrainians' £10m valuation of Vida, who had recentlyenjoyed an impressive Euro 2016 campaign with Croatia.

Undeterred, Moyes is hopeful of thrashing out a £6m deal for the Croat when the January transfer window opens, and had Vida watched in Kiev's 1-0 Champions League defeat to Benfica last week.

Vida has entered the last two years of his contract, and Sunderland believe the Ukrainian giants may be tempted into cashing in on a player who may become unsettled if he's unable to seal a big-money move to the Premier League.

With Lamine Kone -so imperious last season under Sam Allardyce -looking disinterested this campaign and Sunderland's other defenders failing to inspire much confidence, Moyes is likely to be impressed by Vida's extensive Champions League and international experience.

Vida has been a part of the Croatia squad at three international tournaments, Euro 2012, World Cup 2014 as well as the aforementioned Euro 2016, and has played European football in each of the last four seasons for Dynamo Kiev.

Despite bringing in defenders Papy Djilobodji, Jason Denayer, Donald Love and Javier Manquillo in the summer, Sunderland are yet to keep a Premier League clean sheet this season and Vida could be the man Moyes turns to to tighten up his Black Cats side.
