Minister of Youth and Sports Spokesperson Kofi Asare Brako has disclosed that Sunyani is set to get a new stadium with major stadia across the country set to receive massive a facelift.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the past months instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to improve security at the Cape Coast Stadium following a pitch invasion during Ghana’s game against South Africa in November last year.
Speaking to Ashh FM in an interview, Brako says the government was worried about the poor state of the sporting facilities across the country and has made funds available for renovations to take place.
"CAF told us that Cape Coast Stadium was not up to standard because of how a fan invaded the pitch so they instructed us to do an inner perimeter and works currently ongoing," he said.
"The third phase of the facelift of the Accra Sports Stadium will begin soon with works at the Sekondi Stadium, Tamale and Baba Yara Sports Stadium set to receive a massive facelift.
"The Ministry has plans of building a 15,000 stadium in Sunyani as we quest to grow the sporting infrastructure in the country."
