Talal brothers want quick decision on the fate of Olympics coach Godwin Attram

Two directors of Accra Great Olympics, Talal Fattal and Fadi Fattal of the Global Village Group, have expressed their disappointment about the lack of positive response from other shareholders of the club of a proposal they sponsored to help arrest the dwindling fortunes of the club in the Premier League.

Last week, the Fattal brothers made known a five-point rescue plan for Olympics, which included a change of the club’s head coach Godwin Attram for Swedish coach Tom Strand, a UEFA Licence A holder who led Medeama to win the MTN FA Cup last year.

The Global Village Group, which holds 40 per cent shares in the club, has, therefore, called for an urgent shareholders’ meeting to deliberate on their proposal for a decision to be taken in the best interest of Olympics.

In a statement to the media, the Global Village Media Group explained that their preference for Strand was grounded not only on the club’s poor run of results which had seen them just above the relegation zone, but also on the GFA’s regulations on the qualification of coaches for clubs which demands that the first team coach holds a minimum of CAF A coaching licence and a minimum of CAF B licence for the assistant coach.

“In light of the above clause where head coach Attram holds a coach licence B, it has become imperative to move him to the position of assistant coach instead of letting him go, as the club still feels indebted and grateful to Coach Godwin Attram for his personal input that culminated in Olympics’ promotion back to GPL,” the statement said.

Other aspects of the five-point rescue plan for consideration and adoption by the Olympics Board of Directors, include;

i) acquisition of new strikers and offensive midfielders during the second transfer window of the league

ii) acquisition of a 42-seater bus to facilitate the team’s transportation, syndication of GH¢30,000 incentive package with Melcom as additional winning bonus to Olympics players

iii) organisation of a fundraising dinner in Accra ahead of the second round of the Premier League.

The statement added that further delay in taking a decision on Coach Strand could result in Olympics losing him to other rival clubs interested in the Swede’s services.

“Our co-sponsors of the 42-seater bus and players’ incentive winning bonus have also decided to hold on to their sponsorship package in light of the club management’s stalled decision,” the statement said.
