Thailand, Australia simply unstoppable

Published on: 04 July 2018

Firm favourites and defending champions Thailand defeated Cambodia 11-0 while Australia, represented by their Under-20 side, silenced Timor Leste 9-0.

After picking up three points against Timor Leste two days earlier, Thailand were all fired up for their second match.

The Thais, who will be playing in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup France, did not take too long to underline their pedigree with Suchawadee Nildhamrong striking home a fifth minute lead, connecting a cross from Siliawan Intamee.

Suchadwadee went on to score three more goals in the eighth, 52nd and 72nd minutes.

The other goals for Thailand were scored by Silawan Intamee in the 12th minute, Sudarat Chuchuen (27th), Rattikan Thongsombut (33rd, 82nd), Pitsamai Somsai (38th), Nipawan Panyosuk (58th) and Alisa Rukpinij (75th).

“The team showed improvement from the first game and I think that we have rectified several things,” said Thai head coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian.

Australia started with a much changed side from the one that defeated Malaysia 6-0 in their opening match but were still too good for Timor Leste.

Cortnee Brooke Vine hit a brace in the 11th and 18th minutes, followed by Tory Mary Tumeth (37th), Amy Joan Irene Sayer (55th), Kyra Lilee Cooney-Cross (59th), Amy Joan Irene Sayer (65th), Rasamee Phonsongkham (72nd), Rachel Georgia Wehl Lowe (79th) and Karly Roestbankken (86th).
