The Next Generation: Sons of Messi, Suarez and Pique Start Playing Together in the Barcelona Academy

Barcelona are already looking to secure the next generation of superstars early and are hoping that footballing ability is in the blood after the sons of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique played together in the club's academy for the first time.


The Catalan club has a new programme in the FCB Escola ranks this season that will be aimed at boys between the age of three and five.

It was previously said that the initial trial period would be open to offspring of current players and, according to Marca, Thiago Messi, Milan Pique and Benjamin Suarez have all been involved in the early stages.


The Spanish publication explained that the first session involving the youngsters was strictly private. The club took the decision not to publicise it or release any pictures, while even trusted journalists who regularly cover Barça's youth football were not granted access.

Messi recently admitted that his son Thiago, soon to turn four-years-old in November, is not obviously interested in football and that he doesn't tend to buy him balls because he doesn't really play with them. That being said, he's still heading down the road of being a footballer for now.


Newell's Old Boys, Messi's home-town club, famously issued a membership card to Thiago as soon as he was born in 2012.


Son of Colombian pop star Shakira, Milan Pique is also three and turns four in January.

Benjamin Suarez, born when father Luis was playing for Liverpool, is actually only two at the moment, although he will turn threein a matter of daysand be allowed to join up officially.
