There are betting cartels operating in Ghana League, says Bechem United bankroller

Bechem United bankroller, Kingsley Owusu Achau, popularly known as Agama has indicated that there are betting cartels operating in the Ghana Premier League.

The revelation comes on the back of the match-fixing and betting allegation that marred the last two matches of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.

According to Agama, he can state for fact that there are betting cartels in the Ghanaian top-flight league because he has been approached in the past before.

“One of our top guys in football approached me that they wanted to bring Bechem United under their betting business. So, when they approached me that they wanted to bring Bechem United on board, he said they would give me GH₵60,000 if I agreed but I said no,” the Bechem United owner said in an interview with Graphic Sports.

He continued, “I can tell you on authority that you will be surprised if you hear the names of some management guys in big positions who are doing this; it will shock you more because they feel that they can get money to pay their bonuses.”

He has urged authorities to treat the betting allegations that has come up seriously while insisting that it is in the Ghana League and affecting the progress of the game.
