There is no concern about Lawrence Ati-Zigi; we know he is a good goalkeeper – Otto Addo

Ghana head coach, Otto Addo gave a good assessment of goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi after the friendly match against Switzerland on Thursday.

The FC St. Gallen shot-stopper was in post for the Black Stars yesterday and did pretty well to earn the backing of a lot of Ghanaians who doubt his capabilities to be the national team’s first choice.

Speaking on the performance of the goalkeeper after keeping a clean sheet in the 2-0 win against Switzerland, Ghana coach Otto Addo said his technical team has always known that he is a fine shot-stopper.

According to the coach, there is not a lot of difference in quality between the goalkeepers in the camp of the national team.

“We knew before that the keepers we have at this level are inches apart. Its not like somebody is that far away from the other so they are all at the same level. Sometimes it's just little details.

“We knew that Zigi is good and he did today. He plays regularly in Switzerland and gets very, very good remarks after each game. We monitor him so there was no concern at all,” Coach Otto Addo said in his post-match interview.

Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be one of five African countries representing the continent.

The Black Stars will compete in Group H of the group stages of the tournament. In that group, Ghana will battle it out with two-time champions Uruguay, as well as European giants Portugal.

The other group opponent is South Korea from Asia.

While the 2022 FIFA World Cup will commence on Sunday, November 20, Ghana’s Black Stars will play their first match on November 24.

Subsequently, Ghana will take on South Korea on November 28 before finishing the group stages campaign with a rematch against Uruguay.
