There Is Now Only One Unbeaten Team Left in Europe's Top 7 Leagues and Who it Is May Surprise You

Real Madrid saw a Spanish record 40-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Sunday night when a Sergio Ramos own goal and a stoppage time winner from Manchester City flop Stevan Jovetic gave Sevilla a famous win in an early La Liga title battle.

With Barcelona struggling by their own incredibly high standards this season, Real's was the last unbeaten record in Spain's top flight to come to an end in 2016/17.

In fact, there is now only one unbeaten side left in any of Europe's top seven leagues - Spain, Germany, England, Italy, France, Portugal, Russia - and the identity may surprise you.

It's not Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, or five-time back-to-back Serie A champions Juventus. Bayern were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in November for their only loss so far, while Juve have lost four of their19 games this season despite topping the table again.

In England, Tottenham's was the last unbeaten record, broken by Chelsea in November.

It's also not Paris Saint-Germain. Their French crown has slipped this season and they've already lost twice as many games as they did in the whole of 2015/16. It's not surprise Ligue 1 title contenders Nice either after their only loss of the campaign so far came against Caen.

In Portugal, Benfica and Porto have only lost one each, but they have still lost, while Zenit St Petersburg's two is the fewest number of defeats of any team in the Russian Premier League.

Real Madrid's defeat means Hoffenheim are the ONLY unbeaten team in 2016-17 across the top divisions of Spain, Ger, Eng, Ita, Fra, Rus, Por.

No, the only as yet undefeated club across Europe's top seven leagues in 2016/17 is not even really in a title race, as might be expected. It's Hoffenheim, who are currently fifth in Germany.

The village side, who were remarkably a fifth tier club in 2000 andreached the top flight within eight years, haven't lost any of their first 16 Bundesliga games this season.

They've actually drawn six of their last seven fixtures, including a 1-1 result against Bayern and a 2-2 against Dortmund, which is what has seen them fall off the pace at the top despite remaining unbeaten. Upcoming games against Augsburg, RB Leipzig and Mainz will test them.

Fun fact about Bundesliga's TSG Hoffenheim - the capacity of their home stadium is 10 times the population of the village of Hoffenheim.
