Head coach for Ghana’s Black meteors team, Ibrahim Tanko has assured that his charges are ready to make a name for themselves in the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament though he admits there is some pressure.
In the continental showpiece which starts on Friday, November 8, 2019, Ghana has been drawn in Group A where they are expected to come up against the likes of Egypt, Mali, and Cameroon.
Though the trophy is up for grabs, Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his boys are prioritizing securing qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games which has been scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of Ghana’s tournament opener against Cameroon tomorrow, Ibrahim Tanko says his lads are ready to get going to achieve their aim.
“There is pressure in our everyday activities, the boys are eager to make their names in this tournament and for the coming games and I also want to qualify for the games, so there is pressure everywhere”, the gaffer said.
He added, “But that notwithstanding, our soul aim of qualifying still remains high and we are going to make sure that Ghana gets one of the available slots.”
The game between the Black meteors and their counterpart from Cameroon will be played at the Cairo International Stadium tomorrow at 20:00GMT.
