THIAGO MOTTA: "WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO CHALLENGE ROMA"

Published on: 13 December 2021

On the eve of the championship match against Roma, Thiago Motta, as always, gives an overview of the Eagles' week in front of the microphones of the press: "Against Sassuolo we had a good first half, we entered the game and we arrived at 2-0, a situation that we should have managed better, especially considering the awareness of having a strong opponent with excellent players in front of us. From that point of view, we can't let them come back when we play at our home, we have to manage these situations better because it's not the first time.

The lads are improving, we'll see which ones are ready to face a team as strong as Roma, even though they're not at their best they're a team that plays at European level and it will be an important test for us.

I have fond memories of the triplete year with Mourinho, he's a coach who today is an inspiration to everyone: his leadership, his charisma, the desire to win that he transmits to his players.

Manaj is in great form, but that's no surprise. He's training very well every day, he's got great quality. Of course, he can and must improve because he's reached a point in his career where he has to make the leap in quality, and this will depend only on him. At the moment I am very satisfied with what he is doing both individually and collectively.

To understand where we can improve we have to analyze game by game. In the last match, we didn't manage to defend as we should have done, they came out well on the counterattack and recovered us. We must be able to keep the lead when we get it first and hold on to it by closing the game.

Today, in particular, I've seen a great training session, we've worked a lot on the offensive phase that we'll play against Roma and I've had a great response from the lads, even those who play less, and I'm very happy, I'd like them to always be so focused and determined.

Roma is a strong team, especially on an individual level, they have very good players. I expect a team that wants to win, they have a totally different objective to ours because they're aiming for the Champions League, but we'll give our best to try and make things difficult for them and play the best game possible.

We have a lot of young talent in the team, our aim is to help them improve and grow; we have a lot of forwards in particular and obviously, they can't all play, it's up to them to work to show who deserves a starting place game by game. Nzola? He won't be with the team. The rules are clear for everyone because the group comes before any individual".
