Thibaut Courtois Furious With Eden Hazard's Showboating in Belgium's Destruction of Gibraltar

Published on: 11 October 2016

Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was less than impressed with teammate Eden Hazard's showboating during the 6-0 dismantling of Gibraltar on Monday night.

Christian Benteke scored after a record-breaking seven seconds as Belgium picked apart their opponents on their way to a thoroughly convincing World Cup qualifying victory.

However, with Belgium home and hosed, Courtois took exception to Hazard's propensity for stepovers, flicks and tricks, insisting that it was imperative to maintain focus and keep a clean sheet, particularly because the stopper hasn't let in a goal during the current campaign.

"I was angry with Eden Hazard because he tried a backheel in a part of the pitch where he shouldn't have," said Courtois, via theDaily Mirror.

"I absolutely wanted to keep a clean sheet. I yelled to everyone, who understood that we had to stay sharp. We had little to gain here

"We showed we respected our opponent. We have one-and-a-half more years to improve and be ready for the World Cup."

Belgium have picked up a maximum nine points from their opening three qualifying campaigns, putting them well on their way to reaching the World Cup in Russia in two years time. They host Estonia next month in their final qualifier of this year.

Courtois and Hazard, meanwhile, will team up once again as Chelsea host Premier League champions Leicester City at Stamford Bridgeon Saturday after the international break.
