Belgium goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he knew where Thomas Partey was going to put his penalty during his side's clash with Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.

The two Madrid-based clubs faced off last Sunday in Saudi Arabia in the finals of the Super Cup after beating Valencia and Barcelona in the semi-finals.

At the end of a pulsating encounter, there was nothing to separate the two teams at the end of 90 minutes. The match proceeded to the extra time period but neither Real Madrid nor Atletico Madrid could break the deadlock.

After the extra 30 minutes, the Los Blancos went on to win 4-1 on penalties, with Ghana’s Thomas Partey amongst the Rojiblancos players that missed from 12 yards.

In an interview afterward, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed how easy it was for him to save Partey’s penalty. According to him, he knew exactly where the midfielder was going to place his shot.

“I was remembering the moves in the bank. Saul surprised me a little, but in the case of Thomas Partey, I knew where he was going to shoot and it was an extraordinary defense because I think it was a strong, well-pulled shot”, Courtois said.

He added, “I am very happy because it is another game without goals and with good defenses. We had been with good feelings for some time and now we will return with better feelings. On Saturday we have Sevilla who are a very difficult opponent."
