This Stat About Jose Mourinho Is Perfect Proof a Negative Can Sometimes Be a Positive

Published on: 06 November 2016

Usually, when a manager receives a touchline ban, it tends to have a negative affect on the team - well, it's supposed to anyway.

Still, there's always an exception to every rule andin Jose Mourinho's case, the following stat goes to prove that perhaps that pesky rule book should be dispensed with entirely.

Here goes:

As we all know, across his entire managerial career, Mr. Mourinho has missed a number ofgames due to being banned for some indiscretion or another; let's just take a moment to spare a thought for all those poor referees...

Moment over. It's time to move on.

A breakdown of those bans tells us that the former Real Madrid manager has missed the following:

Two games in Portugal (when he was Porto manager); six in Italy (when he was boss of Inter Milan); seven in Spain (the aforementioned Madrid);and a rather worryingnine matches in the Premier League (that's acrosstwo spells with Chelsea andhis current job as manager of Manchester United).

Now maths might not be any given individual's strong point, but that's a grand total of 24 matches missed altogether. Or nearly an an entire season.

Naughty Jose.

But the thing is, rather than keeping his mouth shut and just trying to play nice with the other kids, Jose might be encouraged by the United boardto keep up his ranting and raving - because in ALL the matches he's missed, his various teams have only lost a SINGLE game.

Rather than try and come up with some clever pun to summarise everything, we're just gonna sit back and let that stat speak for itself.

After their impressive 3-1 victory over Swansea at the weekend, Manchester United's next Premier League fixture ishome to Arsenal on November 19th. Should be interesting.

In between now and then, there's an an international break where England will face Scotland in a World Cup qualifier, before squaring up toSpain in a friendly.
