Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Thomas Abbey is grateful to Coach Sergio Traguil for giving him a new but important role upon his return to the team.

Abbey underwent surgery in March this year to correct a rib injury he sustained in February during a Ghana Premier League match at Ebusua Dwarfs.

He however returned into action on Friday during the 2016 President’s cup game against Asante Kotoko at the Accra sports stadium where he was used by Sergio as a left back.

“I will thank Coach Sergio, after training before this game he told me he wanted to use me for a defensive role and asked if I’m physically fit. So I did condition myself for this.” “I’m from injury and I had to prepare well for this.”

The 23 year old also credited former Techiman City FC coach Yusif Abubakr for making him a versatile player back at CK Gyamfi Soccer Academy in Winneba.

Thomas Abbey joined Hearts of Oak in the 2011/12 season on a three-year-contract from Windy Professionals with his current contract set to expire in September 2017.
