Thomas Muller Says World Cup Matches 'Just Work' For Him After Ending International Goal Drought

Thomas Muller has put his recent goalscoring drought behind him after revealing that playing in any match concerning the World Cup "just works" for him.


The Bayern Munich and Germany forward told reporters that he revelled in featuring for his nation in games regarding football's biggest international tournament.


Muller has notched four goals in his last two appearances for Germany after failing to find the net during six matches at this summer's Euro 2016 Championship in France.

Muller added to his brace of strikes in the 3-0 win over Norway, in Group C of the 2018 World Cup qualifying rounds, with another two goals in Saturday's 3-0 triumph over the Czech Republic to take his overall tally of World Cup-related goals to 18 in just 25 matches.


And after putting his profligacy in front of goal during the summer behind him, the 27-year-old stated that playing for Germany in any game relating to FIFA's leading competition brought out the best in him.


He said: "I don't know why, but when 'World Cup' is written on it it just works. There are good stories to be written about it."

Muller may have ended his lack of goals at international level, but the Germany star is still yet to find the net for Bayern in the Bundesliga this term.


Muller has plundered 154 goals in 362 appearances for the German giants, but has only registered two strikes in his opening nine games so far this season - form that has included drawing a blank in Bayern's opening five league matches.


The striker, though, is remaining upbeat - and sarcastically said that he was delighted to have found his goalscoring boots for one of his teams during the 2016/17 campaign.


He added: "I was in a tragic situation before the (Germany) match, and so I'm delighted to have pulled myself up by my bootstraps."
