Thomas Partey made an excellent starting debut for Arsenal on Thursday against Rapid Wien with Arsenal recording a 2-1 win over Rapid Wien in the Europa League.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta and English analysts praised the midfielder's performance.

Arsenal signed Thomas from Atlético Madrid in the last transfer window and the club hope the Ghanaian international can be the lock on the door that the team has longed for for so long.

The game Thomas played on Thursday only raised expectations even further.

"In the second half, when we were a bit more open, he kept the midfield together on his own," Arteta complimented his summer signing.

"He was fantastic and there's a lot more to come from him," he added.

On BT Sport, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves called Thomas' performance 'one of the best debuts I've ever seen'.

"He is exactly what Arsenal has been missing in recent years," said former international and now commentator Karen Carney. 'Thomas is pure class. The Arsenal fans will be happy with such a player on the team. '
