Thomas Partey among Africans that could improve Arsenal, Liverpool this summer

Published on: 15 July 2020

These two Premier League giants may well look to African transfer targets to reinforce their squads over the coming months.

Adama Traore

Heavily linked with a move to Liverpool since late 2019, when he demonstrated his class in front of the watching eyes of Jurgen Klopp with a dazzling cameo at Anfield, Traore has been one of the Premier League’s most eye-catching performers this term.

He’s proved he can decide the big games, memorably scoring three goals and contributing one assist across Wolves’ two Prem victories over reigning champions Manchester City.

Between mid-December and mid-January, he went on a particularly outstanding run of form, and his two-assist showing against Southampton on January 18 was one of the most impressive performances by a wideman in the Premier League this term.

According to reports in Spain, Liverpool have already made contact with the Old Gold about potentially recruiting Traore this summer.

Thomas Partey

Could this be the summer that Partey moves to the Premier League?

The Ghana powerhouse has the credentials to be an immediate upgrade on Arsenal’s current midfield options, and could help create a platform for the Gunners’ attacking talents to shine.

The £44.8 million release clause in his contract makes him affordable—and a potential bargain—but would the Black Stars midfielder see a switch to the Emirates Stadium as a step up considering the prominent role he currently enjoys with Atletico Madrid?

Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly has been tipped with a move to the Premier League for several transfer wins, with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City among the clubs linked to his signature.

Admittedly, the 2019-20 season hasn’t been a great one for Koulibaly or Napoli, with the former enduring injury misery and the latter undergoing a stark decline; they’ve been nowhere near the title race this term, and it remains to be seen whether they can rediscover their former level of performance.

La Gazzetta dello Sport believe Liverpool have made contact with the Italian giants about signing the Senegal international, despite his loss of form, although City appear favourites for his signature.

Eduardo Camavinga

While most of the rumours surrounding Stade Rennais starlet Camavinga have linked him with a move to Real Madrid, Liverpool are also understood to be monitoring the situation.

AC Milan, Manchester United, and Barcelona are among the other clubs considering a move for the teenage sensation, although for now, Rennes appear resolved that the Franco-Angolan wonderkid won’t be moving anywhere this summer.

"We have agreed with Eduardo that he will stay with us next season,” club president Nicolas Holveck told journalists [as per Marca]. "He’s a smart player and he knows where his sporting interest would be best served at the moment.

"Irrespective of that, we haven't actually received any offers for him."

This may be the case right now, but money talks, and if Liverpool decide that Camavinga is the man to bolster their midfield, then they may test Rennes’ determination to keep their prized asset.
