"Thomas Partey is the sort of player that Arsenal need" - Martin Keown

Former Arsenal legend Martin Keown has disclosed that Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is the sort of player Arsenal need to pair Lucas Torreira next season.

The 27-year-old is enjoying his best season in LaLiga with Atlético Madrid - making 43 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions.

The Gunners are still looking for a talismanic figure to fill their engine room and have been heavily linked to the Black Stars talisman who reportedly has a release clause of €50million (£43.5m).

According to Martin Keown, Partey would be a good fit for the club next season.

"I think Partey from Atletico Madrid, the midfield player that sits, very strong, tough player," the former Arsenal defender told Stadium Astro.

"He's the sort of type of player that Arsenal need in that midfield.

"I think Torreira is a player who doesn't get used enough, I know he's been injured.

"[Granit] Xhaka has come in and done better but I'm not sure that is the right answer."
