Thomas Partey not aiming at Black Stars captaincy

Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey has revealed that he is not aiming at captaining the senior national team despite the impressive qualities he exhibited in the country's recent international friendlies.

Partey captained the Black Stars of Ghana in the friendlies matches against Japan and Iceland and is being tipped to take the mantle from Asamoah Gyan.

However, the Atletico Madrid midfield kingpin has brushed aside rumours of any possibility of him leading the senior national team and claim he isn’t aiming for the armband.

“This is just the beginning, I cannot say am the captain of the Black Stars because I have important players in front of me so I just work harder as I said earlier and anything that comes is a bonus,” he told the press.

“As a player, I just play to achieve more for my club and country, being a captain doesn’t make me achieve anything, I just have to do my work and it will be the coach decision to choose a captain”

Partey won the best player at the maiden edition of the Ghana Football Awards which was held last Sunday at Accra.
