Ghanaian international Thomas Partey showed fine form on Tuesday night as he played a key role in Atletico Madrid's 1-0 win against Liverpool in the first leg of the round of 16 of this year's Uefa Champions League.

The Spanish side played as a host to the defending champions of Europe's elite competition at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to look for a good result to take into the second leg.

Following an outstanding display against Valencia over the past weekend, coach for Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone handed Thomas Partey a starting role against the Reds from England.

Just 6 minutes into the match, the Rojiblancos managed to find the back of the net courtesy an effort from Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez.

Though it had to be reviewed by the VAR, it eventually stood and separated the two sides at the end of the 90 minutes, handing Atletico Madrid the advantage ahead of the second leg which will be played at Anfield.

Black Stars star man Thomas Partey who was deployed in a defensive midfield role was impressive all evening as he lasted the entire duration of the game. His confidence and awareness on the ball, his passing and bursting run forward did not go unnoticed as he was rated the 3rd best player [7.01] behind Koke and Man of the Man Saul Niguez.
