Tony Xia Assures Aston Villa Fans Club Is Still Working on Several More New Signings

Published on: 03 August 2016

Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has assured fans on Twitter that the club is far from finished in the transfer market this summer following the £12m capture of Fulham forward Ross McCormack on Thursday morning.

Villa have only completed four signings ahead of the Championship kick-off this weekend, with McCormack joining Tommy Elphick, Pierluigi Gollini and Aaron Tshibola.

But responding to a fan's question about any further business in the coming weeks, Xia revealed that the club is still hopeful of concluding three of four more deals soon.

Hope we can make at least 3-4 happen soon...and a experienced professional TD ! https://t.co/HLBY3ZgNOs

Perhaps even more interestingly, the Chinese businessman expressed interest in hiring an 'experienced' and 'professional' Technical Director.

Villa were hamstrung last season by the incompetency of various staff at boardroom level and Xia is said to have been keen on appointing someone to work behind the scenes to aid manager Roberto Di Matteo since the end of June.

It is thought that the Italian coach will have final say over transfers, but that an experienced head in an 'upstairs' role will help provide guidance, assistance, advice and general input where necessary.

There's a mentality that's growing here says new boy Ross McCormack. #AVFC #WelcomeRosshttps://t.co/SXMcoegKpI

Paddy Riley served as head of scouting and recruitment last season, while Henrik Almstadt served as sporting director under the watch of chief executive Tom Fox.

Managers Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde were left with a sub-standard squad as a result of terribly poor recruitment in summer, followed by non-existent recruitment in January. None of the three men kept their jobs beyond the end of the dismal relegation tarnished campaign.
