Published on: 26 November 2021

There are good reasons why the English Premier League is counted among the world’s top football leagues. It’s a melting pot where players from all parts of the world come together to ply their trade. EPL clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, etc., are household names not just in England but in places miles away from there.

Of the many players competing for glory on the football fields of England, there are a few from the African nation of Ghana. With their natural flair for the game, the Ghanaians have made their mark in EPL, dribbling past their opponents with élan. Let’s look at the top Ghanaian players you should watch out for in the 2021-22 season of the EPL.

Arsenal - Thomas Partey

Thomas earned fame and recognition after joining the top-tier Spanish team, Atletico de Madrid. Before joining Atletico, Partey was loaned to Almeira and Mallorca. In the year 2020, Thomas landed on the shores of England by signing for Arsenal at a deal worth 45 million euros. You’ll spot him on the fields in the number 18 jersey. Partey took the field for Arsenal for the first time against Rapid Wien in the UEFA Europa League.

Partey’s performance in last season’s Champion’s League has been impressive. He averaged 3.6 tackles per game. Additionally, he made 1.6 passes per game, many of them with incredible accuracy. He also made two dribbles on an average in every game. Partey has also appeared for the Ghana national team on many occasions. Of course, fans have mixed feelings about Partey’s contribution to the team. However, things might change as he gets a midfield partner.

Crystal Palace - Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew is a player of Ghanaian origin born in Marseille, France, on September 11, 1991. He was included in the Ghanaian national team in 2010. It was followed by him joining Lorient in 2014. Today, Jordan is counted amongst Ghana’s richest football players.

Ayew’s most significant contribution to Crystal Palace was scoring the winning goal in stoppage time, as his team scraped past West Ham United 2-1 during 2019’s Boxing Day celebrations. That was Ayew’s 21st goal in the Premier League, of which, very interestingly, 95% have come only in the second half. It's the best second-half performance from any player in the history of the EPL.

Leicester City - Daniel Amartey

Born on December 21, 1994, Daniel Amartey is a defensive midfielder at Leicester City. Daniel signed on the dotted line for Leicester on January 22, 2016, and he wears jersey number 18. He has made only a few appearances for his team till now. While he’s yet to score a goal, his passing accuracy, which stands at 69 percent, has impressed one and all. The pass completion percentage is even more impressive at 88 percent. What has turned heads is the player’s calmness on the field. He was recently involved in a controversial penalty decision.

Crystal Palace - Jeffrey Schlupp

A professional football player Schlupp was born on December 23, 1992. After starting his career as a striker, he became a left-back or a winger for Crystal Palace today. He's also on Ghana's national team. Jeffery is a player from Leicester City’s youth academy. In 2011, Schlupp joined Brentford on a one-month loan. The same year he made his senior debut as a substitute, taking the field at the 77th minute in a 0-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town.

Schlupp hit the headlines after scoring both the goals against Carlisle United in a 2-1 victory. After making his mark, Schlupp joined Leicester City again, where he had a pivotal role in the side's fairy tale title triumph in the 2015-16 season. Known for his searing pace and athleticism, Jeffery Schlupp signed for Crystal Palace in 2017 for an impressive 12 million pounds.
